How to read Newphoria

One story. Four lenses.

Below is a single event, covered by 6 outlets. We show the same set of reports four times, ordered by a different question each time. Watch the order change. That change is the whole point: what counts as the “best” account depends entirely on what you are asking of it.

US warns of ‘economic D-Day’ for Iran as defiant Tehran set to hold talks on Hormuz
These outlets partly diverge (Δ 0.53). They agree on most of the facts and frame the significance differently.
ΔDivergencehow far apart they framed it
Divergence is measured across the coverage as a whole, not per outlet: it is one number describing how far apart these accounts sit from each other. There is no per-outlet ranking to show here, and inventing one would be noise.

φTraceabilitysourced, corroborated, close to the event
A composite: how far the claims trace to a checkable source, how many independent outlets corroborate them, and how close the reporting got to the event — less a penalty for standing alone uncorroborated. This is Newphoria’s lens_truth score, not the raw φ citation metric.
κCraftdepth of the reporting
Higher means more original reporting: named sources, direct quotes, specifics, and length that earns itself.
Vantagewhere the coverage is standing
Every outlet reports from somewhere. This is the spread of vantages on this story.

Notice what happened. The outlet at the top of one panel is rarely at the top of the next. The most deeply reported account is not always the best sourced. The one standing furthest from consensus is not thereby wrong, and the one closest to it is not thereby right.

How this story was chosen. The panels do not always disagree. Of the 35 well-covered stories we could compare today, the order changed between lenses in 21 (60%). This is one of those — picked because it shows the effect clearly. Nothing on this page is altered by that choice: the numbers are whatever they are.

We are not going to tell you which to believe. We measure the shape of the coverage and hand you the same evidence the newsroom had. That is the entire product.
